What is needed to be a storm chaser?
Storm chasing can be taken seriously as a professional career, but many people choose to do it simply as a fun hobby according to becomeopedia.com. They argue that "many storm chasers out there that do this work as a hobby and do not get paid for their findings." This is true, and so is the fact that those who do make storm chasing a full-time job usually get involved in the program SKYWARN, a national volunteer program that is dedicated to training local storm chasers to help protect their local community. It is not necessary as you can chase as a hobby, but it might be helpful to have the knowledge. The NWS, or National Weather Station, is a great place to start a career as well. You will report the collected data to them, and there they will use that data to further the research on weather or issue storm warnings. Classes on Physics, Science, and Meteorology will be incredibly helpful in storm chasing.
